02 / AI in Zurich

Where AI agents pay off in Zurich.

Zurich combines Switzerland’s largest financial centre around Paradeplatz with a strong engineering base fed by ETH Zurich, and many global technology companies run engineering teams in the city. Swiss buyers expect discretion, documentation and reliability: an agent that prepares a client file or answers a support request must show where its answer came from, stay within the data it is allowed to see and hand anything consequential to a person. Around Zurich, Zug’s Crypto Valley hosts blockchain and digital asset firms, Basel is a centre of the pharma and life sciences industry, and Geneva is home to international organisations, NGOs, private banks and commodity traders, each with different language and confidentiality needs.

Switzerland is not in the EU and has no AI Act of its own. The revised Federal Act on Data Protection, in force since 1 September 2023 and supervised by the FDPIC, applies to AI that processes personal data, and FINMA’s Guidance 08/2024 sets out its expectations for governance, inventories, data quality, testing and explainability when supervised institutions use AI. The EU AI Act applies only where a Swiss company places AI systems on the EU market or their output is used in the EU. We check that during scoping and design to whichever rules reach you.

we design for

  • Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revised FADP, in force since 1 September 2023), supervised by the FDPIC
  • FINMA Guidance 08/2024 on governance and risk management when using artificial intelligence, for supervised financial institutions
  • EU AI Act only where Swiss companies place AI systems on the EU market or their output is used in the EU

We are engineers, not lawyers. We build to these frameworks and work with your legal and compliance teams on the final review.

05 / FAQ

Questions from Zurich teams.

Do you have an office in Zurich?

No. We work remotely from Pakistan, which is four hours ahead of Switzerland in winter and three in summer, so your morning overlaps our afternoon. We hold meetings and demos between 9am and 2pm Swiss time, stay reachable on Slack or Teams into your afternoon, and send written hand-overs for the rest of the day.

Can our data stay in Switzerland?

Yes. We deploy into your own cloud account in a Swiss region where you require it, or an EU region if you prefer, and choose model providers that offer the residency you need and do not train on your data. For the most sensitive cases we can run open-weight models inside your own environment.

Does the EU AI Act apply to us as a Swiss company?

Only if you place AI systems on the EU market or their output is used in the EU, for example a chatbot serving EU customers. At home the revised FADP applies, and for supervised financial institutions FINMA’s Guidance 08/2024. We map which rules reach each use case during scoping.

Do you build custom machine learning models as well as chatbots?

Yes. Alongside LLM-based agents and chatbots we build classical machine learning for forecasting, classification, anomaly detection and document processing, trained on your data and deployed in your environment with monitoring and documentation.
